TMP451: Using analogue mux on D+ pin

Part Number: TMP451
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP468

We have multiple remote TSDs we'd like to monitor with a single TMP451. Is it valid to connect them via an analogue multiplexor such as an NX3L4051 like this?

  • Hi Tim,

    Thank you for posting.

This implementation is not recommended due to the capacitive effects of the switch. Figure 6 from the datasheet shows the effects of excessive capacitance on remote temperature error.

Additionally, it may be difficult to synchronize the conversions and switching, and will require triggering multiple one-shot conversions after reconfiguring the switch.

As an alternative, the TMP468 has eight remote channels and is highly recommended.

    Best regards,

    Nicole

  • Thanks Nicole. I wish I'd asked that question before we built our prototype boards! I think the mux we chose has a small enough capacitance, but the TMP468 is definitely a much neater solution. We'll switch to that for the next revision.
