IWR6843ISK: Duplicate 3.3V power supply when connected to MMWAVEICBOOST

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST,

Hello,

When connecting IWR6843ISK to MMWAVEICBOOST, I noticed 3.3V power plane is duplicated on the schematic.

This means 3.3V output from each board will conflict with each other.

Is this the intended design and is there any problem in operation?

Regards,

Yudai

  • Hello

When you would be using the mmwaveicboost   we recommend to access the device via the mmWaveicboost board.

Can you please highlight what all connections and power supplies have you connected and compare them with the supported setups in the EVM uer's guide.

    Thank you

    Vaibhav

  • Hello Vaibhav,

IWR6843ISK and MMWAVEICBOOST is connected as shown in the pic below.

Here,  in the IWR6843ISK schematic, 3.3V output from LP87524 is connected to pin4 and 6 of samtec connector.

On the other hand, in the MMWAVEICBOOST schematic, 3.3V output from LM536353 is also connected to same pin (4 and 6) of samtec connector. So, if we connect two boards, 3.3V output from different PMIC will be tied.

The IWR6843ISK seems to be working fine, but I'm not sure whether this power supply condition is a problem or not.

    Regards,

    Yudai

  • Hello Yudai,

It does seem that these voltage rails would be competing, but we have not seen any issues with this. In a production design the 3.3V rail should only be supplied from one source.

  • Hello Jackson,

OK, thank you for the clarification.
