TMP431: Trace or Cables Impedance for external connected transistor

Part Number: TMP431

Hi Team,

Do we have any requirements for the impedance of traces or cables when using external transistor for measuring temperature?

Best,

Stanley

  • Dear Stanley -

Thanks for posting - With this device, series resistance in the circuit that typically results from printed circuit-board (PCB) trace resistance and remote line length is automatically cancelled by the TMP43x, preventing what would otherwise result in a temperature offset.

  • Hi Josh,

Which factor customer can use to cancel the offset voltage? And actually customer uses long cable except PCB trace in this case.

  • Stanley -

Beyond 8 inches, use a twisted, shielded pair with the shield grounded as close to the TMP43x as possible. Leave the remote sensor connection end of the shield wire open to avoid ground loops and avoid 50/60Hz pickup from line voltages.

Most likely they would use the beta correction feature to cancel the offset, as the wire resistance would probably be well below 300 Ohms.
