TMCS1108: TI solution suggestion

Part Number: TMCS1108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5110, TMAG5111, TMAG5170, TMAG5273

Dear Team,

Does we have any solution have linear optical scale function as below?

(MU150)

Many thanks,

Jimmy

  • Jimmy,

Thanks for reaching out with your question.  For a similar type of function to what is being shown here TI currently offers a few options.  For incremental encoding I would recommend looking at TMAG5110 or TMAG5111.  These devices are capable of generating outputs from a rotating multi-pole ring magnet to provide information on both speed and direction.  By counting state transitions, relative incremental angle position can be determined as well.

For absolute angle accuracy, I would recommend considering TMAG5170 or TMAG5273.  These devices offer 3D sensitivity to the magnetic field and have built in CORDIC engine to produce angle measurements with a resolution of 0.25 degree based on the inputs.  Given the sensitivity to all three axes, these sensors may be placed on axis, in plane, and even anywhere off-axis from the magnet.  A multipole ring magnet may also be used, but it would then be necessary to have the controller count zero crossings in order to determine how far the magnet has rotated.

    Thanks,

    Scott
