IWR6843ISK: Is it possible to transmit the raw ADC data from the IWR6843ISK using the reference design of (TIDA- 010022) People counting and tracking using mmWave radar sensor with sub-1 GHz?

Part Number: IWR6843ISK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST

Hi,

I have used IWR6843ISK to wirelessly transmit People Counting reference design using  LAUNCHXLCC1352R1. Now I would like to know whether we can transmit raw ADC data acquired per frame through LAUNCHXLCC1352R1.

Regards,

Vandana

  • Hi Vandana,

The raw ADC data is a very large amount and the recommended approach is using LVDS with a capture board such as the DCA1000 EVM with the MMWAVEICBOOST board.

The following goes over this method and there are other e2e posts related to this approach.

Transmitting wirelessly is going to have very strict data limitations and a very low frame rate. Is there a reason you are trying to access the raw data? Normally the raw data is only used for development purposes.

    Thanks,

    Alex

  • Hi Alex,

I have used the DCA1000 to capture raw data. But I am currently looking at developing real time application where data transmission should happen in wirelessly and then applying SAR imaging algorithms on the received data

  • Hi Vandana,

I am sorry but raw adc data wireless transmission may be outside the scope of my knowledge or the radar forum. For assistance one of my coworkers mentioned you could try posting a new question to one of the wireless devices groups.

    Thanks,

  • Hello

Ti's mmWave device have user programmable cores  so technically peripherals can be programmed to send out the data over peripheral of choice.  Considering the size of data and update rates needed the ADC data is preferred over the high speed interfaces such as LVDS.

You would have to check if the wireless device of choice can accept the data over such high speed interface

    or

Program the mmwave device to send data over other compatible interfaces which may be as suboptimal data rates.

Hope this allows you to make a decision based on the device capabilities vs data peripheral choice suited for your application.

    Thank you
