TDC1000: Configuring TDC1000

Hello experts,

I have started working on ultrasonic vehicle fuel level sensor. For this project i have selected the TDC1000 as AFE and C2000 as the MCU. As I understood, I have to connect my PCB to the PC in order to configure the TDC1000. I went through the TIDA 00322 reference design as well. What I wanted to know is, can I configure the TDC1000 by connecing my PCB to the PC via UART interface of the MCU? Or do I have to buy TDC1000-C2000 EVM module to configure the TDC1000 and use that configured IC in my PCB?

Hi Fayas,

The EVM makes it easy to program the C2000 and configure the TDC1000 via USB as the EVM uses a TUSB3410 USB to Serial Port Controller for the UART communication. If you are able to connect the PC to the microcontroller, you should be able to configure the TDC1000 via the microcontroller.

Note, the EVM makes it very easier to communicate with the C2000 and the TDC1000. Additionally, the EVM enables the use of a GUI for level sensing. For many of these reasons, customers usually prefer to use the EVM for development before transitioning to a custom solution.

Hi Jacob,

Thank you for the response. By 'EVM' , did you mean the EVM module (the PCB Board) or the EVM software?

Hi Fayas,

Sorry for the confusion. By EVM I mean the evaluation module PCB. The EVM software will also only be compatible with the EVM PCB.

Hi Jacob,

As you said, if we need the EVM software to configure the TDC1000 and the EVM software compatible only with EVM PCB, how can I configure the TDC used in my custom design. Please advise me on this.

if the EVM software compatible only with EVM PCB, could you please suggest me the way to configure TDC1000 in the custom design (Which used TDC1000 & C2000)

Hey Fayas,

In the case of a custom board you will need to configure the TDC1000 via SPI. Section 8.5 of the datasheet cover this case.
