AWR1642BOOST: USB to power the AWR1642BOOST

Part Number: AWR1642BOOST

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to power the AWR1642BOOST from a power bank with output voltage of 5V and 2.1A. I found a thread that it is possible to power the module from a power bank. He also wants to confirm if he can power the module from a USB port of a computer? Is the USB port capable of supplying the current required by the module? Is there a high current surge that may damage the USB port?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hello,

You will not damage the USB port, but you may throttle the performance of the radar if the USB port does not meet the current limit. We recommend to power from a 5V >2.5A supply, but the current required will be heavily dependent on your chirp configuration.

You can test your configuration using a benchtop power supply and make note of how much current you are consuming. If it is below the limit of your USB port then you will not have any issues.

    Regards,

    Adrian
