Hi TI Team,

Good Day!

Can you please let me know, if I can use AWR1642BOOST-ODS to detect obstacles in road at the range of 20 to 50 Meters(Both Static and Moving Obstacles).

As of now, I am using AWR1642BOOST EVM for the above said task, But Since I couldn't derive the elevation data, I am planning to use AWR1642BOOST-ODS to control the elevation data (example - only need elevation from 0.5 meters above the ground to 1.7 Meters)

Can you please suggest me, if I can use AWR1843BOOST as well to detect obstacles at 20 Meters to 50 Meters Range with an option to control the elevation data

Hello Guru,

Yes you're right. In order to get elevation data, you could either use AWR1642BOOST - ODS or AWR1843BOOST for that matter.

The AWR1642BOOST and AWR1642BOOST-ODS feature different antenna patterns. The ODS board features single patch antennas with low gain and wide field of view in both azimuth and elevation. The standard AWR1642BOOST EVM features multi-patch antennas with a wide field of view in azimuth only.

The ODS board can be used for obstacle detection in automotive applications (but only upto a range of 10-15m). You can take a look at this reference lab for more information: dev.ti.com/.../

But since you want to estimate objects at a greater distance with elevation information as well, using AWR1843BOOST will be a better option. You can take a look at the MRR reference lab for more details : Medium Range Radar (ti.com)
