TMAG5170-Q1: Configuration of registers

Part Number: TMAG5170-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5170

Hi Team,

Our customer would like to confirm if he can configure the registers DEVICE_CONFIG, SENSOR_CONFIG and SYSTEM_CONFIG of TMAG5170-Q1 using SPI frame. He would like to confirm also if these registers are in the EEPROM memory. Upon checking the datasheet, it seems that the device has no internal EEPROM, can you please confirm?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Danilo,

Thanks for using e2e and reaching out with this question.  You are correct, TMAG5170 does not have any internal EEPROM, so when the device is powered down it will not restore to the previous settings.  The device will load the default configuration each time it is powered on.

The registers are configured through the SPI communication.  Each SPI transaction can configure one register at a time. That is, after a read or write, the chip select line must be released prior to initiating another command.

    Thank you,

    Scott Bryson

  • Hi Scott,

Thank you for the confirmation. Regarding the first inquiry of our customer, can he configure the registers DEVICE_CONFIG, SENSOR_CONFIG and SYSTEM_CONFIG of TMAG5170-Q1 using SPI frame mentioned at Section 7.5.2.6 of the datasheet?

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Danilo,

Yes, all read/write registers are configured using SPI following the pattern in the referenced section of the datasheet. These registers have an address of 0x00,0x01,and 0x02 respectively.  Information regarding the specific register settings is found in 7.6.1 of the datasheet.
