FDC2114EVM: Restoring Bootloader/Firmware on MSP430

Part Number: FDC2114EVM

Hi,

I had a problem while programming the FDC2114EVM using the EVM GUI firmware upgrade feature. While it was uploading, it was taking quite a while so I decided to close the application and restart the firmware upgrade. Doing so caused a problem with the firmware/bootloader. The LED on the Eval module stopped lighting up and the device is no longer detected by the EVM GUI.

Is there a way for me to restore the firmware on the MSP430? If so what are the steps to do so?

Best,

Brian

  • Hello Brian,

You can follow the directions in this E2E post to reset the MSP portion of the EVM. The FDC2114EVM has the same MSP design so once you reset the EVM following the instructions, you can just reflash the EVM following the same steps as before.

  • Hi Justin,

I'm still not able to reflash the EVM. The instructions aren't the clearest. But here are the steps I took. While connected to the computer, I measured the voltage at the PUR pin (R6) and it was 0V. I measured the VUSB voltage at (C29) this showed me 3.3V. After connecting a wire from VUSB(C29 pad) to PUR(R6 pad) and then removing the wire, the voltage at the PUR pin is 3.3V. I then open the EVM GUI tool and did a firmware update. (Note during this time, the EVM GUI tool says that nothing is connected).

Let me know if I'm doing anything wrong.

    Best,

    Brian

  • Hello Brian,

You have successfully put the MSP into BSL mode. The next step is to reflash the EVM. With this EVM you actually have to use an additional software to reprogram the MSP portion. There are further instructions and a link to the MSP430 Firmware Upgrade tool in this E2E thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/sensors-group/sensors/f/sensors-forum/664915/ldc2114evm-ldc2114evm-firmware-file-needed/2445916#2445916

The txt file you need should be in the install location for the Sensing Solutions GUI. Once you reflash, you should be good to use the EVM as normal.

Let me know if you have any additional questions on this.
