TMAG5170UEVM: Can't Connect EVM to GUI

Part Number: TMAG5170UEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMAG5170

Hi, I have the same problem that can't get the TMAG5170UEVM connect to GUI.

I have installed the driver on my Win 7 PC few time, saw a exclamation mark on the USB device in Device manager, It looks has a problem Win7 ? try again on Win10, it look good on device Manager, assigned as COM3, but still can't make connection from GUI ?

Its looked i have fix the USB driver problem on Win10, but what else need to do to make connection ?

I have also try FDU firmware upgrade  on Win10 when COM3 was shown on Device Manager, but  "File->Program device"  still in grey shown no device available ?

I did try Clicked Serial Port on GUI see if I can set anything, but  nothing is available ?

Please help me to setup this EVM show on PC.

Thanks and regards,

Anderson

  • Anderson,

It sounds as if you're likely following the flash procedure correctly, but please do refer to the video:

    https://training.ti.com/getting-started-tmag5170evm

As a first step, please try connecting using version 1.0.0 of the GUI.  You can navigate to this by searching for TMAG5170 in the gallery of dev.ti.com

    https://dev.ti.com/gallery/view/4910879/TMAG5170EVM_GUI/ver/1.0.0/

The EVM should connect here.  If it does not, then it would suggest a possible driver issue.  We have seen that sometimes it is necessary to change the USB port for the controller board to be properly recognized. For instance, if using a docking station with a laptop, try connecting the USB directly to the PC.  After verifying a good connection, it should be possible to flash the EVM to the latest firmware and use the current version of the GUI. If it cannot connect on any USB port, then we may need to debug the driver further.

You will need to follow these steps:

    • Connect the EVM to the PC
    • Launch the GUI
    • press the reset button while shorting the DFU test point located near the MSP432.  The green LED near the MSP432 should remain dark upon button release
    • Go to: file -> program device.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Many thanks for your suggestion. Following your suggestion and updated the drivers manually on Win10 Device Manager, now the EVM is connected to GUI. I have play

a bit with the dial, the angle follow my action.

Once again, Thanks for  your prompt reply !
