AWR2243: Amplitude Mismatch / Power Calibration

Part Number: AWR2243

In attempting to improve calibrations, it would be beneficial to be able to control power backoff and/or gain settings in increments smaller than 1 dB.

  • In using Tx Power Backoff, it is clear that 1 LSB = 1dB in power backoff so that is an option but greater than 1dB.
  • Using AWR RX GAIN TEMPLUT SET SB it appears that 1 LSB = 2dB
  • Using the TX GAIN TEMPLUT explains we can program the STG_CODE, but its incomplete in the ICD what the granularity of that setting is and I can't seem to find that anywhere.
  • The data that is being read by the RF_INIT calibration process lacks the documentation to really read/analyze that data or manipulate it in order to restore if that is an option.
  1. What would be the value for 1 LSB in the STG_CODE?
  2. Any additional info to decode the power cal data in  AWR CAL DATA SAVE SB?
  3. Blanket question:  is there anywhere else that a smaller than 1dB correction can be applied?
  • Hi,

I presume when you say calibration here, you are referring to factory cal and the topology is cascaded radar. In cascade configuration it is recommended to have 3 temperature bin cals done at factory and reuse them based on system temperature. Especially for absolute Gain and Phase change it has to be done carefully. Please refer for more details.

In the single chip configuration, please refer section 4 of the spracf4b app note, where it is mentioned that the calibrations can be done periodic(one time cal) and take care of drift in temperature.

From the granularity perspective the1LSb value is what is listed in the ICD, if you want to have control on the calibration points or improve the resolution of the calibration then it should be taken care by the application.
