AWR2243BOOST: External ref clock for AWR2243BOOST

Part Number: AWR2243BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR2243, AWR2944

Hi,

I am using AWR2243BOOST and I would like to input my own external ref_clock to DEBUG_FRCLKP (J1 pin26).

Also I would like to use external hardware trigger by using SYNC_IN (J1 pin16).

Are there any AWR2243BOOST board changes required for this ?

Thanks,

Ron

  • Hi,

Give us some time to review this request

    thank you

  • Hello,

You will need to GND the CLKM pin and feed in the clock to the CLKP pin. The clock should meet the specifications in Table 8-7 of the datasheet.

For the sync in you can feed in the signal on pin 9 of the J5 connector. There are no hardware modifications needed for this.

    Adrian

  • Hi Aozer,

    I am using the AWR2243BOOST.

CLKM and CLKP are not part of any header. How are I input external clock to the AWR2243BOOST?

    Thanks,

    Ron

  • Hello,

Yes, you would need to remove the XTAL first.

You would need to feed in to the pads where the XTAL was or on the pads for the load caps by soldering some wires. There is no easy way to provide external clock on the EVM, so this is the only way to do it.

  • Thank you! I will give it a try.

I am working with an external board that connects AWR2243BOOST via J1 connector.

Can I solder AWR2243 CLKP to one of the "Not Connected" pins of J1 ? Any preferred one ?

I have another external clock question -

Will it be possible to work with a clock different from 40MHZ ? Higher clock ?

    Thanks,

    Ron

  • You could solder it to one of the NC pins, but signal integrity might be compromised with a long cable. Would be best just splice an SMA cable and solder it directly to the pads where the XTAL was placed.

The AWR2243 only supports 40MHz clock. The new AWR2944 supports 53MHz clock option, but all of the other mmWave devices only support 40MHz clock.
