AWR1642: What affects the velocity calculation?

Part Number: AWR1642

Hi,

I test the radar outside, but it detect something velocity is not 0 m/s, in fact, the object around all is stop. Do certain materials affect the phase of reflected waves? Or what else would affect his calculations?

Thank you

  • Hello Charles,

In order to understand the impact of various chirp parameters on the sensing capabilities of the device, please refer to the the following application note : Programming Chirp Parameters in TI Radar Devices (Rev. A)

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Ishita

  • Hi Ishita,

I have read the note, but it just said the radar parameter calculation. but I still have a question, does testing different materials or shapes affect speed detection? Or there are other external factors?

    Thany you ,

    Charles

  • Hi Charles,

Ideally different materials and shapes should not affect velocity calculation. You had mentioned you were observing velocity>0m/s even though the scene was static outside, can you please mention the velocity which which you were observing (like it was close to 0m/s or high velocity)? Also, can you please test the radar in indoor static room and see if you see velocity calculation > 0m/s.

One more thing to check is if you are getting the range calculated by radar is correct. Can you please check this also and let me know?

Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Akshay.
