TDC7200EVM: TDC7200EVM Software Issues

Part Number: TDC7200EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TDC7200

Hello,

I'm currently following the user guide for this component and stumbled across a few issues, any assistance with this is greatly appreciated.

Firstly, once I'm on step 5.2.1 and open the GUI, it crashes randomly and when it does, it deletes itself from the folder its in. I uninstalled everything entirely then reinstalled it a few times, and did get up to 5.2.6, where once I plugged the USB cable in the drivers were installing. However, at this instance the firmware upgrade program crashed and deleted itself from the folder.

Another thing also is that after getting to 5.2.6 that time, other times when I reached this step and plugged the USB cable in, the PC no longer recognised the MSPEXP430 board anymore, and on device manager, just showed it as a  'USB Serial Device' , and thus was unable to upgrade the firmware, which I was hoping would fix all my issues. Also I operate on windows 10 in case that helps.

Any help on this would be appreciated, as I'm not too experienced in this field.

Thanks

  • Hello Amir,

Thank you for your detailed explanation of your issue. I am sorry the issue still persists.

I have never encountered a GUI crash of the TDC7200 GUI myself. Are you able to consistently get to step 5.2.6 now that you have redownloaded the GUI?

Can you try to keep the MSP board unplugged until step 5.2.6, then upon reaching 5.2.6, hold the BSL button down before plugging the device into USB power. Some of our other EVMs have had similar issues with BSL mode not being activated when expected. If BSL mode is activated, the Firmware Upgrader should recognize the device.

I will continue to debug on my end to see if I can replicate your issues on my EVM

Please let me know if you have any questions,

    Regards,

    Jacob.

  • Hi Jacob,

It isn't consistent, and now experiencing another issue where when I download the installion file (5.1.3) from the ti website , unzip it, then run the setup,  randomly during the download process it closes and deletes itself also. Finding it at more difficult at the moment to progress to 5.2.6. Also, in case something changed, I tried running the setup and installing the files on USB Memory instead of my harddrive, and the same problems persisted.

    Unsure of how to proceed.

    Thanks

    Amir

  • Hello again,

I installed the GUI on a fresh computer to see if I could replicate the issue you are experiencing, but the install executed without issues.

I spoke with a few members of my team and concluded the issue is likely related to the NI drivers or Windows related issues.

If possible, please try installing on a different computer.

    Thank you,

    Jacob

  • Thank you. Working fine now. Really is a strange issue as I've never encountered anything like that before. One last question if possible. On 6.1 the TOF is successfully calculated with a start and stop signal, however in 6.2 they mention making additional connections between the jumper pins. Are these really necessary / what would they be for since the main purpose of the TDC (calculating the TOF) has already been achieved.

  • Hi Amir,

I am happy to hear the GUI is now functioning.

6.2 is describing the jumpers that configure inputs to the TDC7200 device. JP1 closed allows for the VCC of the MSP430 to power the TDC7200 and JP2 controls the clock source to the device. Most users populate JP1 closed and JP2 connected between pins 2 and 3 (Y1 as clock source).

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,

    Jacob

  • Thanks for the assistance. Understood with the diagram, and much appreciated.
