LDC1614EVM: Trying to get LDC1614EVM and GUI working on an AWS Windows Instance.

Trying to get my LDC1614EVM working on my home computer, which is a Macbook Air. My idea was to create a Windows instance using AWS, which I was able to do and then downloaded the GUI software, which seems to be working fine. The problem is that when I plug the EVM into my computer, the GUI does not recognize it - in fact, I can't seem to find the device anywhere on either OS (Device Manager, ports have all been checked on both sides).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

Were you able to successfully install (as admin) the Sensing Solutions EVM GUI Tool v1.10.0 (Rev. F)? The GUI installs the device driver when it is installed. If this fails, you can also find the device driver in the location that the GUI is installed on the computer.

Additionally, have you tried multiple USB ports to get the EVM to be recognized by the computer?

Hi Justin,

Thanks for your note. I am able to install the GUI as an admin and I can find the program files folder and drivers therein without any issues. Are there any steps I can take from inside that folder that might help me recognize the device? This is not something I have very much experience in so I appreciate your patience.

I have also tried a few different dongles without any success... is there potentially a special type of USB port I need? The dongle I use is made by Satechi.

Hello Patrick,

If the device isn't showing in the device manager, there isn't anything you can do from the folder. However, if the device shows in the device manager, the driver for it is in the install folder and can be manually updated.

In regards to USB ports, I believe the EVM requires USB2.0 or newer in order for the data transfer to work best but it should be compatible with 1.0. My best guess here is that the USB port isn't getting properly passed from your computer to the AWS windows instance. Do you have any way to test this with something other than the EVM?

Hi Justin,

I think you may have put a finger on it - the remoter client won't recognize any local USB-connected devices. Will try to figure out how to make that happen and post for anyone else looking to solve this problem.

Hi Justin,

I got the EVM to work on Parallels - there seems to be a way to achieve USB remotization on the AWS platform, but it is outside of my scope of computer skills. I'd recommend parallels for anyone looking to use the LDC1614 EVM on mac!
