TMP236: Operation in a strong magnetic field?

Part Number: TMP236

Hello,

I was thinking of using this part to sense toroidal transformer temperature.

It would be mounted on the outside of the transformer directly over the windings on a small PCB.

Do you think the strong magnetic field in this location would adversely affect the operation of the TMP236 in any way?

Thank you.

  • Hi Mark,

Generally, a strong magnetic field will not have an adverse affect on the TMP236 operation. However, in this environment the TMP236 analog output signal could be effected. For this reason, I would pay caution to a few things:

    1. Induced voltage on the wires due to the electrical potential caused by the magnetic field.
    2. Any common-mode voltage difference between the GND of the TMP236 signal.

Also be sure to follow the recommended maximum supply rating of the TMP236. (5.5V)

  • Thanks Jalen, those are all very good points. The wires will be pretty short. I think I'll do some experimenting though, just to make sure.
