LDC3114-Q1: Connecting one coil to two channels of one LDC

Hello TI-Team,

Our team is working on a safety solution with LDCs. Now we have to know if one coil could be connected to two channels.

For this we want to measure the inductance twice with one LDC. The measurements take place at different times an so i thought this should be possible.

Please can you confirm that?

If we are connecting one coil to two channels are there any circumstances we have to consider?

Thank you for your post and your intertest in TI products.
Theoretically, two channels should be able to share a common coil.
But before taking this as the final answer, please let me confirm it in the lab with one of our EVMs, and update this thread with the results on Thursday.

One of my colleagues ran an experiment with a sensor coil shared between two channels of our LDC3114 EVM.

As it turns out, it flagged an LC Sensor Watchdog Error given by bit 2 of the Status register (see Table 7-3 of the LDC3114-Q1 data sheet) and the chip shut down.

So it looks like a coil shared between two channels will not work.
