LDC3114-Q1: Checksum mode or any other protection of the IIC channel for safety integration

Part Number: LDC3114-Q1

Hello TI-Team,

Our Team is working on a safety solution with a LDC. I want to know if there are any protections of the IIC communication like a checksum or something else is planed for future releases.

Or does an other LDC of TI has some protection?

And further i wanted to know if there are any recommendations for the integration of an LDC for safety point of view.

Thanks in advance and best regards

Florian

  • sFlorian,

I am not aware of any modifications to the I2C interface in future releases.
That being said, we are always looking to improve our products to better meet our customers' needs.

    You mentioned an I2C checksum.
Are there reliability metrics you wish to see for detecting or correcting I2C errors, like a max error rate, max number of retries/re-sends, or max # of correctable bit errors?

Since we provide devices, and not systems, it is hard for us to make detailed suggestions.
A strategy we see to increase reliability is some form of redundancy, as you proposed in in your other post
Another approach we see are redundant systems where multiple coils, devices and PCBs are used.
If one sensor system fails, the redundant system can continue operation.

    Regards,
    John

  • Hello John,

Thank you for the quick answer.

A checksum would make our concept much more simple, so this could be one feature to think about for future releases Slight smile

But in this case some metrics would help us a lot to calculate the residual risk for our system. Please can you provide the numbers you have mentioned above?

My question about the recommendations for the integration of an LDC for safety point of view was more about the electrical connections of the IIC.

If we can make the IIC Channel more safe through some external circuitry.

    Regards,

    Florian

  • Florian,

The LDC3114-Q1 Functional Safety FIT Rate, FMD and Pin FMA is a downloadable document that contains info on the LDC3114-Q1 reliability, FIT rates and potential failure mode analysis. I think it will help answer some of your questions on device reliability. Please take a look at it, and let me know if you have any questions.

    Regards,
    John
