TDC7201: Combined Operation

Part Number: TDC7201

I saw the sequence diagrams of mode1 and mode2 and explained them clearly, but the datasheet did not give a detailed explanation of the sequence and calculation formula of combined operation. Can you help explain it?

  • Hello Zhang,

Thanks for posting to the Sensing forum! We do cover this in section 8.2.2.1 of the datasheet but the section is not called combined measurement so I apologize about that but we also have an app note that covers this topic more in depth which you can read here: https://www.ti.com/lit/an/snaa292/snaa292.pdf

Just as a quick summary both timers receive the same START signal, so START1 and START2 are tied together, then you send the real ToF measurement START signal to STOP1 and the STOP signal to STOP2. This allows you to take the difference of both ToF measurements in order to obtain smaller measurements than 12ns mode 1 limit.

Let me know if you have any additional questions regarding this topic, and I hope this helps!

    Best,

    Isaac
