DRV5032: Current draw

Part Number: DRV5032

Hello E2E Experts,

Good day.

I am planning on using the DRV5032 is a battery-operated product for asset tracking.

I am the Principal hardware Engineer for the project.

I am designing the power supply.

Looking at the DRV5032 specification the peak current consumption is 2.7ma but the average current consumption max is 1.8uA.

On page 7 of the DRV5032 specification the ICCPK Peak current consumption id 2.7ma max. Since I am designing this into a battery-operated product I want to know under what condition the DRV5032 requires 2.7ma max.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Regards,

CSC

  • Thank you for reaching out with your question.  Normal operation for DRV5032 will have the device in a low power sleep which it will periodically awaken from, take a sample and then return to the low power state.  Please refer to the example diagram from the datasheet

The peak Icc is only required during t-active, which is specified here:

The peak Icc value occurs while the sensor is forcing a current through the Hall-element, which with an applied magnetic field will produce a measurable internal voltage that is used to evaluate the state of the applied field.

    Thanks,

    Scott Bryson
