LDC3114: Advantages against capacitive touch

Part Number: LDC3114

Hi team,

Could you summarize advantages against capacitive touch when using inductive touch in simple ON/OFF button application?

I can pick up below, please add more and correct them if there is wrong

1. Works with gloves

2. Robustness against EMI

3. Doesn't need extra fabrication process

4. Robustness against environmental drift such as temperature, humidity, etc.

Best regards,

Hayashi

  • Hello Hayashi,

The benefits you listed are correct. Here are a few additional benefits of using inductive touch buttons instead of capacitive:

    • Robust against dirt, water, oil, and DC magnetic fields
    • You don't need to GND the metal target in an inductive touch button
    • Built in algorithm of the LDC3114 provides increased immunity to dents or deformations in the button surface
      • Same algorithm that provides the robustness against environmental drift

If you need, we have a list of collateral for getting starting with inductive touch buttons that can be found here: [FAQ] How to get started with Inductive Touch Buttons
