LDC3114: Use-case of inside of LCD display

Part Number: LDC3114

Hi team,

Can the LDC family work inside of LCD display? A customer only need 4 to 8 point touch in the display, so have interests in inductive touch sensors.

Best regards,

Hayashi

  • Hello Hayashi,

Getting LDC to work in an LCD display depends on the mechanical implementation of the sensor. The sensor coils need a metal target to interact with to create a button press. If the display can have a metal target behind it and enough motion to move the metal (only needs a few um depending on button design) then there is no issue implementing this.

If you want to do eight touch buttons with the LDC3114, we recommend using two devices similar to how the TIDA-060039 is implemented. The I2C switch in this reference design allows each LDC3114 to continuously run it's baseline tracking algorithm on all buttons.
