Dear members,

For one of my designs I need to have a sensor for measuring the PCB temperature. I found LMT70. I want to know if it is a good choice or there is a better option. I appreciate any kind of recommendation.

Hi Farzaneh,

Yes, the LMT70 and LM235 are both capable of measuring PCB temperature. Which temperature sensor is most appropriate will ultimately depend on your system requirements (accuracy, analog or digital interface, supply voltage, etc.). If you are looking for an analog output temperature sensor, I recommend the TMP235. Additionally, please refer to this application report for layout/design recommendations:

Hi Jesse,

Thanks a lot. I chose LM235 as we had it in our stock. According to docs you sent me I made the circuit below to sense between -10 to 70ºC. May I ask you to take a look and tell me if it´s OK or not? Or Did I forget anything?

Hi Farzaneh,

Please see Section 8: Application and Implementation of the datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm235.pdf#page=10&zoom=100,0,96

Section 8.2 shows a typical application for using the LM325 as a basic temperature sensor, as well as a detailed design procedure in 8.2.2 (1 mA flowing through the sensor for optimum accuracy, maximum reverse current flowing through the device maintained between 0.4 mA to 5 mA, etc.).

If you would like to do a single-point calibration for higher accuracy, the method for temperature calibration is outlined in section 7.3.
