IWR6843AOP: [ERROR] Cortex_R4_0: Not able to connect to serial port. Recheck COM port selected and/or permissions.

Part Number: IWR6843AOP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UNIFLASH

Hello,
I would like to flash the basic software on my radar IWR6843AOPEVM.
For that I followed this tutorial: Flash the EVM using UniFlash
To take again step by step,
I have well a "Standard COM Port":

Then I open UniFlash and I select my radar:

I select my image from "C:\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_06_00_00-LTS\firmware\radarss" and I am ready:

On the radar I respected this line of the documentation:

so this:

With the S3 to ON because I want to flash.
Before launching I do not forget to press the button reset of the radar.
Then this window opens:

But the bar does not advance and after 10-15 seconds this error appears:

I can't use the demo either. The connection is not done.

If you have an idea, I am willing to help.

Thanks in advance,

Dimitri Sigg

  • Hi Dimitri,

Please note that the "Enhanced COM Port", COM5 in your case, should be used for flashing. The "Standard COM Port" is used for data output from the device.

Additionally, xwr6xxx_radarss_rprc.bin is NOT the out of box binary. That is a firmware patch for the RadarSS that is typically built into the binaries that are flashed onto the device. The out of box demo binary is located at <mmWave SDK Location>\packages\ti\demo\xwr68xx\mmw\xwr68xx_mmw_demo.bin

If you have not done so already, I would highly recommend you take a look at the Out Of Box Demo User's Guide in the mmWave Industrial Toolbox. This guide can be found on TI Resource Explorer under:

mmWave Sensors->Industrial Toolbox->Labs->Out of Box Demo->Out of Box Demo User Guide

    Best Regards,

    Josh

  • Hi Josh,

Thank you very much, I had indeed the wrong COM port.

Regarding the .bin I went to look for "\ti\mmwave_sdk_03_05_00_04\packages\ti\demo\xwr64xx\mmw" to take the file "xwr64xxAOP_mmw_demo.bin" because my sensor is IWR6843AOPEVM.
Thank you again and sorry for my beginner level.

    Best regards,

    Dimitri
