AWR1243: Raw Data Format while using Multiple Tx

Part Number: AWR1243

Hi Team,

Can you please help us with this inquiry of our customer?

We are doing research on AWR1243 for Autonomous Driving.

We are trying to plot Range-Angle Heatmap by using I/Q data.

When 1xTx antenna is used, we read the ads_data.bin file as per the guideline explained in the Application Report titled "Mmwave Radar Device ADC Raw Data Capture", Section:

9.1 DCA1000 With xWR12xx and xWR14xx MATLAB Example https://www.ti.com/lit/an/swra581b/swra581b.pdf

We are trying to understand how we should read the adc_data.bin when 2x or 3x Tx antennas are used.

When the multiple Tx antenna emits reflection are processed by the Rx antennas , how should the adc_data.bin be read correctly to read each received chirp data on Rx antenna ?

The above mentioned application report doesn't mention the format when multiple Tx antennas are in place.

I am not using cascaded radar.
I am using only 1 device and I want to read the bin file with when multiple Tx antennas are active.

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi,

If the multiple Tx are active at the same time, than there is no difference with single Tx.

    Thank you

  • Hi Cesar,

Please see the feedback of our customer.

I am sorry but this answer doesn't solve my problem.
You have to tell me the format how the bin file is structured when 2 Tx are active.

When I capture data when 2xTx are enabled then the size of adc_data.bin file size doesn't change.
I would expect the size of the bin file to be increased 2x but stays same as with 1xTx.

I am waiting answers for the following questions:
In which order should be read Tx1 and Tx2 transmission antenna reflection data ?
How I/Q data is structured on Rx antennas when 2xTx are enabled ?

Please give me an example like in the application report.

This information is not in the application report.

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Sorry for the delay,

When I capture data when 2xTx are enabled then the size of adc_data.bin file size doesn't change.
I would expect the size of the bin file to be increased 2x but stays same as with 1xTx.

This understanding is not correct. If 2Tx are enabled at the same time, the size of the raw data generated is the same as 1Tx.

The only difference is that there is more power transmitted.

Our customer must understand this basic behavior before going forward.

    Thank you

    Cesar
