IWR1843BOOST: IWR1843BOOST: High Resolution Point Clouds from mmWave Radar similar to Lidar for Object detection.

Part Number: IWR1843BOOST
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: IWR6843ISK

Hi Team,

I am currently using IWR1843BOOST out of the box demo. This is currently detecting number of objects in the field of view. I also used 3D_people count demo with IWR6843ISK, this however provides the very low resolution of the point cloud.

I was wondering if we have any demo that TI has worked on to provide greater point cloud resolution.

Best Regards,

Veena

  • Hi Veena,

Can you please explain what type of range resolution and angular resolution you are hoping to see in a demo?

Our 3D_people_coutning_demo's detection layer can be tuned to modify the performance, tuning guide can be found at our industrial toolbox at the path pictured below.

For your information, e2e is scheduled to be down for maintenance starting today, so expect some delays in future responses.

    Thank you,

    Angie

  • Hi Angie,

Thank you for the response. To elaborate what I mean is if the demo detects a presence of a person there is a point cloud that is visible. However the point cloud that we see doesn't really map as the shape of a human.

Like it doesn't really map as the shape of the person, so in that case we can't really identity what object or if a person is detected just by looking at the point cloud.

So I was looking for some tuning where in the point cloud that we see should be exact mapping of the shape of the person, for which I believe we need the higher resolution point cloud mapping, something similar to depth sensor point clouds.

    Regards,

    Veena

  • Hi Veena,

    Thank you for the details.

Our product does not have that level of resolution to fully map out of the shape of a person with the point cloud. Our angular and range resolution can be set by the chirp configuration (see this tool) and performance similar to the videos seen in our industrial toolbox for people counting shows about what you can expect.

    Thank you,

    Angie
