AWR1843AOPEVM: Access level to AWR1843AOPEVM without using MMWAVEICBOOST and DCA1000

Part Number: AWR1843AOPEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MMWAVEICBOOST, AWR1843BOOST, AWR1843

Hi,

I want to program and develop my code on MSS and DSS for blind spot detection application. The question is what is the best choice for this application between AWR1843AOPEVM and AWR1843BOOST Module when using alone.(without using MMWAVEICBOOST and DCA1000)

I want to measure distance and velocity of targets and send these data by any available protocol to another microcontroller.

In other words, what are the main differences in access to module DSP and R4F ARM programming and hardware outputs when using AWR1843AOPEVM alone(without using MMWAVEICBOOST and DCA1000) and AWR1843BOOST alone(without using DCA1000)

Thanks a lot

  • Hello Ali,

So, the AOP antenna provides smaller solution size, since there is no additional space required for antennas on the PCB. It also allows for lower cost PCB design since you don't have to use high frequency dielectric material.

The flip side is that you cannot make your own custom antenna design. It's a fixed design on the package. On the PCB you can design your own antenna which meet your requirements.

So based on your requirements you will have to choose which will be a better fit.

  • Thank you Saswat,

except antenna difference between these two modules (AWR1843AOPEVM and AWR1843BOOST), are there other differences? for example are there differences in program the chips using CCS and debug the code for these modules?

is AWR1843AOPEVM without MMWAVEICBOOST same with AWR1843BOOST in code programming and access level to software and hardware? in the TI site mentioned about MMWAVEICBOOST that this module contains additional interfaces for CCS? what are these additional interfaces and why do i need them?

    Thank you for your helps.

  • Hi Ali,

So other than that, there are no changes in programming the chips.
Also, to my understanding the debugging software's are also the same.
Could you point me out to which additional features that are mentioned? You could attach an image or just type it out in the reply as well.

  • Hi Saswat;

This image is from link https://www.ti.com/tool/AWR1843AOPEVM?keyMatch=AWR1843AOPEVM.

In this link mentioned that why we should use MMWAVEICBOOST. But is not clear for me that if i buy just AWR1843AOPEVM without MMWAVEICBOOST, Which options will I lose?

    Thank you Saswat.

  • Hello Ali,

You will need the MMWAVEICBOOST for the debug purposes. Without this you will not be able to flash applications on the AWR1843 AOP.
Also, to see what additional debug lines it has, you can go through the schematics of the mmwaveic boost that is present in the ti.com product site itself.

  • Thank you so much Saswat.
