TMP114: accuracy compared to TMP117

Part Number: TMP114
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMP117

Hi,

I've made a comparizon between TMP117 and TMP114 specifications.

Both are base on a internal thermal BJT  and have a 16 bits converter leading to a resolution of  0.007 °C

TMP117 accuracy is +/-0.15°C between -40°C and +70°C

TMP114 accuracy is +/-0.3°C between -10°C and 85°C

Accuracy curves look so close.

How comes this difference ?

Are they from different technologies ?

Is there a effect due to the packaging or heath exchange?

Are the accuracy tests conducted in a different way ?

Is the TMP117 trimed, not the TMP114 ?

Once we do a calibration of our own, piece by piece, shall we expect any difference of performance ?

Thank you.

Yours,

André

  • Dear Andre -

Thanks for the post. These two devices were each specified, designed and developed to meet different application/market needs.

The TMP114 was developed for low voltage, space constrained applications that needed decent accuracy, whereas the TMP117 was developed specifically to continue our leadership of the market in temperature accuracy, while offering support for wide input voltage range as well as a little memory. Both devices are trimmed/calibrated before shipping, and you should not need to calibrate either device further, and actually that might even be a really difficult thing to do in/for an end product, without the same type of equipment.
