FDC2214: Can customer use one electrode for liquid level detection?

Part Number: FDC2214
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

Hi team,

In the typical application of FDC2214, three electrodes are used. Customer want to know if they can only use one level sensor to realize the liquid level detection?  Do you have any guide for this?

Besides, customer want to know what's the maximum height that FDC2214 can detect? cm level or mm level? Thanks!

BR.

  • Ruixin,

We don't have any guides for one-electrode liquid-level sensing.
The customer may be able to create such a system, but it will most likely be highly dependent on their system and design.

The maximum liquid height will be dependent on their electrode design and the liquid they are trying to detect.
They will need to be sure electrode capacitance does not go beyond the minimum and maximum capacitance of the FDC2214.

Just so you know, we advise customers to use the FDC1004 over the FDC2xxx devices.
The FDC1004 has active shield drivers which can provide protection against EMI.
In contrast, the FDC2xxx devices do not have this feature, and many users have struggled to get to production because of that.
