TMCS1101: Hall effect sensor for current sensing application

Part Number: TMCS1101
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE3010

Hi Experts,

Our customer needs a hall effect sensor for the current sensing application. They are measuring current for protection purposes.

The sensor needs to be accurate to measure 10m A current change. Cost-effective will be the preferred option. I see TMCS1101 but not sure if this will fit all the mentioned requirements.

Can you please confirm? If TMCS1101 is not fit, please advise. Thank you.

Best regards,
Gerald

  • Gerald,

Unfortunately if the customer needs to measure a 10mA change, I don't think any form of Hall sensor is going to help them. Hall effect sensors are inherently noisy devices, and are typically not used for high resolution applications. Is there a specifc aspect of their design that led them to Hall effect sensors? Do they require isolation?

  • Hi Carolus,

Thank you for the information. Our customer is looking for the GFCI circuit and current measurement of 15mA current using CT and Processing the current to trip the relay.

    Best regards,
    Gerald

  • Gerald,

We do have a device intended specifically for GFCI application. Please check out the AFE3010. This device handles much of the functionality of GFCI under UL-943 applications and may be of interest to the customer here.
