TMP117: Temperature Range Confusion

Part Number: TMP117

Hey team,

I have a customer confused on the true temperature range of his device. From what I can see, they're using the TMP117MAIDRVR. Full details below

"Problem description: TMP117M has a temperature range of 0 to 85C. Based on our testing at -25C, however, we found that the TMP117M was still operational. What is the true operating range for TMP117M? What is the temperature accuracy of TMP117M below 0C?

Request: Going back to the TMP117 data sheet, we find that there are 3 variants documented: TMP117, TMP117M, TMP117N. Can you clarify the product differentiation for each variant with respect to performance, use case and cost? We want the accuracy of the TMP117M and the range of the TMP117N…is that the TMP117?

 "

Thanks in advance

Marco

  • Hello Marco,

The available TMP117 devices are differentiated by their price and operating range. The TMP117 has been spec'd from -55*C ~ 150*C while the TMP117M is more focused for medical use and has been spec'd from 0*C ~ 85*C. TMP117N is a lower cost variation of the TMP117 with some differences in accuracy.

In your case, I would suggest the TMP117 (not the TMP117M or TMP117N) as it has the best observed temperature range and accuracy.

I hope this answers your question, else please do reach back out!

    Regards,

    Harry
