TUSS4440: Configure registers for >1m

Hi,

I'm using a TUSS4440 and a 40kHz piezo, I've already made a few tests and was able to detect distances between 20 to 80cm. I set the filter and capacities accordingly to fit the 40kHz piezo, but I can't seem to be able to detect distances further than 80cm.

I would like to know how to configure the registers of the TUSS so I can visualise distances greater than 1m. Thanks in advance for any help :)

Hi Mehdi,

Sorry for the delayed response. Are you using the EVM for this device? If so, it should easily be able to achieve the distances that you are trying to get. If using the EVM for this device would you be able to share an screenshot of the GUI configuration page?

If you are using your own custom PCB, would you be able to share a list of your current register configurations?

Hello Alicia,

I'm using a custom board, the TUSS4440 is controled via SPI. I configure the registers the same way you did in the software development guide https://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa941/slaa941.pdf?ts=1700228906866&ref_url=https%253A%252F%252Fwww.ti.com%252Fproduct%252FTUSS4440.

I used the piezo provided with the TUSS4440, and made sure the PWM on O2 is at 40kHz.

Then when I want to trigger a measure, I briefly change the BURST_PULSE (register 1A) writting the value 0x14 (20 pulses) and the TOF_CONFIG (register 1B), writting the value 0x01 (burst mode).

Then I change the TOF_CONFIG back to 0x00 (listen mode).

I'm able to see some distances, but nothing further than 80cm at best.

Could you also specify the environnement used for the tests (open field or in lab, the reflective matieral used, etc), so I can try to replicate as closely as possible what you did ?

Hi Mehdi,

I would recommend making sure that the VDRV Hi-Z mode is disabled by ensuring that the VDRV_HI_Z field in Register 0x16 (VDRV_CTR) is set to 0h to see if this helps.

If not, can you probe the output voltage of the TUSS to see what voltage it is outputting?

For testing purposes, it may be best to use a large hard surface, such as a wall or the ceiling.
