    Hi Hans,

    The middle pin is not electrically connected to the die so tying it to GND should be ok. Keep in mind that the landing pattern may not allow to place the device all the way through to be able to connect the pin if you are placing it on a PCB due to the notch at the top. Common practice would be to leave the pin floating since it is not in contact with the PCB anyway. And if you are using wires then you would only solder to VN and VP.
