TMAG6180-Q1: What are the output characteristics of this device and can it drive ADS9224R directly?

Part Number: TMAG6180-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS9224R, ADS8354

Hello,

What are the output characteristics of TMAG6180-Q1?

  • What is the bandwidth of the driver?

Can the output directly drive ADS9224R?

  • ADS9224R is a 16-bit, 3MSPS, 2-ch ADC and has a 16pF sampling capacitor.

Regards,

Mike

  • Mike,

    The output bandwidth is here:

On the EVM we sampled the output with an ADS8354, and preliminary testing showed it unlikely that we would need the active stage that we included in our anti-aliasing filter.  We wound up leaving it in to be safe since it would make a significant impact on the overall routing of the EVM.  The maximum recommended current load on the output is 1mA, so if this is enough to sufficiently charge the sampling capacitor during acquisition time period then it's probably okay.

However, It looks like ADS9224R is not meant to sample differential signals.  If you plan to implement a differential to single ended stage your amplifier you'll get better overall quality and won't have to worry about drive strength.

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks, this is clear. The ADS9224R is a differential input ADC.

Is a TINA model available for the output driver?

    Regards,

    Mike

  • Michael,

No I don't think so. I'll send you an email and connect you with the designer who can give you more insight.

    Thanks,

    Scott
