MMWAVE-STUDIO: How to set infinite frames in mmWave studio

I am using DCA1000 to get data from AWR1843. Generally we don't know how much time the target will be in observation range. Setting infinite frames helps in stopping the frame, when I wish.

Generally, the infinite frames is configured by setting 0 in the number of frames in framCfg command. But when I put 0 in the Frame section in sensorConfig tab of mmWave studio it is not working.

the mmWave studio user guide tells that we "stop frame" can be used for if inifinte frames have been configured. But not told how to set infinite frames.

SO how should I set infinite frames command in mmWave studio.

Are you able to successfully capture with finite frames?

DCA1000 raw data capture will not work with infinite frames because eventually the memory will overflow. First, you should confirm you can successfully capture with finite frames (10 or so frames) to confirm your setup is running correctly.

Yes. Setup running correctly. I am able to take the data for multiple frames, even i tried putting 2000 frames. Able to read this 2000 frames data in 2 files, as the maximum size of file DCA1000 can save is 1GB.

In mmWave studio user guide it is told stop frame can be used. Also, I don't think, the memory overflow in DCA1000 happen as I am able to read the data in 2Files, I think it will just split the files.

It depends on your capture rate and the Ethernet output rate. If you are capturing faster than the Ethernet can send out data, you will overflow the 2GB DDR3 memory. The user guide provides some guidance on the throughput of the Ethernet for different packet delay settings.

You need to compute your throughput based on your sensor configuration and make sure you are not exceeding this if you are trying to capture continuously. If you are exceeding this you will eventually overflow the DDR3 and the capture will fail.

I am able to get the data in 2 files, so this means the overflow is not happening.

So how to set infinite frames

If you set the frames to zero it will frame infinitely.

HI aozer I am able to set infinite frames by putting 0 in the number of frames. Earlier I did not know to use stop frame to stop collection of the data, after infinite frames is set.

Hello,

I am assuming you figured it out but there is a Stop Frame button next to the Trigger Frame button. You can press the Stop Frame button to manually stop framing.

I also already got the infinite frames, but do you know how can i see the graph like time domain plot, FFT output during the data captured in infinite frames?

Hello,

You cannot post process a dataset with infinite frames using the mmwave studio post processing tool. It needs to be a finite number of frames programmed so that studio knows how many frames are to be parsed.

Studio also does not support real time processing of live data. For that you can refer to the SDK out of box demo examples which will utilize internal DSP processing to generate the point cloud from the ADC data.

Device can run indefinitely with infinite frames but you cannot post process a binary file for a capture with infinite frames using the mmwave studio post processing tool.

Also, if you try to capture data with DCA1000 with infinite frames eventually you will overflow the memory. You need to manually stop the capture before that happens.

Thank you for the information. If I were to set the device to use a finite number of frames instead of infinite, what is the maximum number of frames that can be configured? Also, are there any considerations or limitations I should be aware of when setting this maximum?

You can read the interface control document provided in the DFP for device firmware limits. For capture limits you can search the forums, this has been discussed before.
