DRV5011: Can DRV5011 pin be bended for wider pitch?

Part Number: DRV5011

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

My customers are a problem while using DRV5011. For TO-92 package the interval between pins are only 1.27mm while due to the SMT process restriction they can only accept 1.9mm or higher pitch of this package.

Currently the solution they found that to add a cover on the pin of DRV5011 and bend the end of the pin up to 1.9mm pitch to adapt to the SMT. The cover showed like in the figure below. They are afraid that this would bring some risks hence they would like to ask that if the pin of DRV5011(TO-92 package) are feasible to be bended? Pls also feel free if you can provide better idea for solving this, thanks.

  • Manu,

Bending the leads on the TO-92 package is not typically recommended due to the risk of cause damage to either the pin or the plastic encapsulation.  It may be possible to create a jig to help minimize stress at the package, but this would be the responsibility of the customer.  If they chose to do so and there were a device failure, it might not be possible to determine whether they caused the failure via package level stresses.

    Thanks,
