TMP61: TMP6131DECR failure

Part Number: TMP61

Tool/software:

Hi All.

We experience a TEMP sensing failure with a TMP6131DECR.

The TEMP datalog shows normal behaviour initially (for a few weeks) with reading in the 50-60degC band. Then the sensor had a first blackout (resistance dropped to close to zero for a short time), then coming back to reading although under-reading. We observed 3 similar blackout episodes before a permanent failure occurred with resistance dropping down to only 18 Ohms.

What is a plausible root cause of this issue? I suspect some sort of circuit breakage occurred although am not sure if the causes of that are electrical (oversupply V) or mechanical (impact) or thermal (overheating).

Thanks
