Are there any recommended placement angles for Hall effect ICs?

    Taku,

    Thanks for reaching out.  The placement angle will depend on the shape, size, and material of the permanent magnet.  The device is sensitive to the portion of the magnetic field directed upward from the PCB towards the top of the sensor package when using the SOT-23 device.  If using the TO-92 package, it would be the field directed from the back face towards the front face.  

    I would recommend that the customer explore placement using the TI Magnetic Sense Simulator, which is free and will model device output behavior.
