AWRL6432: AWRL6432 power_modes example in SDK

Part Number: AWRL6432
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA228

Tool/software:

Hello team,

.

When testing power_modes example in SDK(MMWAVE_L_SDK_05_05_02_00) with EVM, seems power consumption doesn't match with what in AWRL6432 datasheet.

.

Here is actual power consumption measurement value.(5Vin to AWRL6432EVM)

Normal                              : Max 148mA / Min 138mA / Mean : 142mA

LPDS(Low Power Deep Sleep) : Max : 136mA / Min 126mA / Mean : 130mA

IDLE                                 : Max : 139mA / Min 129mA / Mean : 133mA

.

.

When testing power_mode example in SDK, is there anything need to be considered to make system get in sleep mode? How did we test and get the sleep mode power consumption number? Your help would be appreciated.

.

.

Victor Park

  • Hi Park,

Kindly flash the power_mode app image (from SDK) in flashing mode and change the device mode to functional mode. Then, connect to the application UART COM port of device in teraterm and enter the power mode you want to enter. By default, the device will stay in idle state for 25 seconds and deep sleep state for 50 seconds. You can modify these timings as per the customer's requirement.

The current you are measuring from 5V input is for the complete EVM power consumption, not the AWRL6432 device power consumption. The datasheet talks only about the AWRL6432 device power consumption. Our power measurement involves measuring the current consumed by each rail supplied to AWRL6432 device during LPDS and idle states.

    Thanks.

  • Hello Voona,

    .

Thanks for reply! Can I ask if we used AWRL6432EVM when measuring power consumption? How could we measure power consumption on each supply rails on EVM?

    Regards,

    Victor Park

  • Hi Victor,

For power consumption, we have used different board and setup at TI side for more accurate power values across various conditions. However, we can also measure the power consumption of the device on EVM by reading the current consumption values from INA228s mounted on EVM via I2C lines. The same INA228 readings are used to measure the current consumption of device on EVM while using the SDK demos.

    Thanks.
