Dear team,

Is there a failure mode that "I2C is normal communication, but measuring temperature is wrong than real ambient temperature"?

We are considering software diagnostics for the failure modes, and understand I2C communication error or temperature sensing error. but not sure it looks working well but actually it is in error mode...

Hi Kitamura-san,

TMP112 does not have self-diagnostics. As long as the sensor is used according to the datasheet's recommendations, the temperature accuracy will perform as specified.

Have any issues been observed using the TMP112?

Does that mean if sensor outputs wrong value than real ambient temperature, there is no way to identify that in case IC is malfunction or failure?

Hi Kitamura-san,

Yes, the TMP112-Q1 does not have built-in safety features.

TMP112-Q1 is "functional safety capable" meaning that TI provides the FIT rate, FMD and pin FMA. The customer may use this information to aid in a functional safety system design. Here is the FS info document: https://www.ti.com/lit/fs/sffs028/sffs028.pdf

Unfortunately at this time, the TI temp sensing portfolio does not contain a temp sensor with self-diagnostic features.
