Hi,
IWRL6432AOP can support 3 people counting/tracking without any external MCU. Can you let me know why you say an external MCU is required? Is this your observation from testing that you have done?
For 8 people counting/tracking, yes, I would recommend IWR6843. IWR6843AOP may be sufficient depending on the mounting and range requirements otherwise you may wish to use the ISK style of antenna. Will the sensor be 'wall-mounted' or 'ceiling-mounted'? How large of a space are you looking to cover?
Best regards,
Josh
Change to English:
Hello,
I'm sorry, your latest reply was missed. I'll try to answer your questions below.
We want to confirm the difference between the internal and external MCUs for the IWRL6432AOP. This is because the IWRL6432AOPEVM development board uses an external MCU, and we are concerned that using only the chip's internal MCU
There is no external MCU used for radar data processing on the IWRL6432AOPEVM. I think you must be referring to the XDS110 which is only included on the development board for debugging purposes.
What are the differences in performance or specifications between wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted antennas?
The wall mounted antennas typically have a more narrow field of view in the elevation direction whereas the ceiling mounted antennas typically have a matching FOV in both azimuth and elevation. Please refer to the specific FOV of each antenna in our radar toolbox antenna database.
We plan to detect a space with horizontal ±60 degrees, vertical ±30 degrees, and a maximum detection distance of 8 meters. Can the AOP solution achieve this?
Yes, this is within the capabilities of the IWRL6432AOP device for detection of a person.
If we adopt an ISK-style antenna, will there be difficulties in antenna design and debugging? We do not have equipment related to antenna design.
Yes and no. Antenna design will be more involved from your perspective with the ISK style antenna because you will be designing the antenna directly to the PCB requiring special considerations for hardware design. We try to still make this as easy as possible by providing the design files and other documentation and resources however, the AOP solution will be less effort from your perspective. We provide this specifically for those customers who do not have a history of antenna design or expertise.
By the way, regarding the difference in the number of detectable people between the IWRL6432AOP and IWR6843AOP, is it only the difference in the number of antennas? Are there any improvements in the algorithm?
There are multiple factors why IWR6843 can detect more people that IWRL6432. Yes the difference in number of antennas plays a part, but also, other factors like less memory, no DSP, slower clocked ARM and other architecture differences for low power.
Best regards,
Josh
