TMAG5170: Can TMAG5170 self diagnosis generate magnetic fields

Part Number: TMAG5170

Hello,

We want to use TMAG5170 in a redesign to get rid of another sensor. We want to be able to check if the sensors react to real magnetic fields. I'm not shure if this sensor can create its own field for self test. The datasheet does not describe a function like that so I have to assume that the sensor can not do that. Am I correct?

Best regards,
Samuel Canadi

  • Samuel,

You are correct.  Not of the diagnostic functions available on TMAG5170 allow the device to generate its own magnetic field.  However, there are checks that the device is able to correctly switch connections to the Hall-element, drive currents, and measure voltages.  We are also able to diagnose the rest of the signal chain is in good health.  These together should verify everything just short of an actual magnetic field producing an output on the ADC.

Particularly, I believe you would be interested in the functions described in 7.3.7.11 through 7.3.7.14.

    Thanks,

    Scott
