Hi team,

I was wondering about any potential side effects of drawing 3.3mA of output current from the TMP118. The datasheet recommends a max of 2mA, so I'm guessing it's not recommended but wanted to get your thoughts.

Also, I don't see an output current recommendation for the TMP117 so would 3.3mA be viable for this device?

Hello Noah,

You should not exceed the spec because the voltage is not guaranteed to meet the Vol spec. With these in mind, your device is likely to self-heat, resulting in the device to report a higher temp than is actually sensed.

Hi Gage,

Thanks for your response. Understood that 3.3mA on the TMP118 isn't recommended. How about the TMP117, there's no output current recommendation that I could find in the datasheet?

Hello Noah,

The recommended output current would be the test condition "Iol" next to the maximum spec for Vol, shown in the screenshot below as 3mA
