OPT3001: Output value increase observed in newer sensor lots

Part Number: OPT3001

We are seeing an increase in the sensor’s output values starting from a specific lot, and we would like to confirm whether this behavior is within the expected device characteristics.

With an external input of Adjustment Point 6 (25.5 lux):

  • Lot 0249108Z9M and earlier: 160–190
  • Lot 0251350Z9M and later: 170–205

In our internal standard, values above 200 are considered unacceptable.
Some units in the newer lot now exceed this limit.

Could you please confirm if this change in output characteristics is normal for this device, or if it may indicate variation or abnormal behavior?

Thank you.

  • Hello Hirote,

OPT3001 is specified for +/-10% variation at 2k lux.  The variation seen on newer lots is within that specification. What is being used as a reference for the light level? Is it confirmed that light level used in tests has not shifted in any way?

    Thank you,

    Joseph Scherphorn

  • Hello Joseph,

    Thank you for your response.

In our production process, we always verify that the illumination before measurement is 30 ±3 lux, and we have confirmed that there has been no change in the light source or measurement environment. Therefore, we believe that the shift in measured output cannot be attributed to changes in illumination conditions on our side.

You mentioned that OPT3001 allows ±10% variation at 2k lux, and that the variation observed in the newer lots is within specification.
However, we could not determine what specific characteristic, test condition, or measured parameter was used to conclude that the newer lot’s shift is within the ±10% specification.

Looking at our internal measurement records, we clearly see that when the lot changed from 0249108Z9M to 0251350Z9M, the output distribution shifted upward, and some units now fall outside our internal acceptable range.

To better understand and confirm the situation, could you please provide the following for the two lots (0249108Z9M and 0251350Z9M)?

    1. Specification upper and lower limits used in your judgment
    2. Actual measured upper limit, lower limit, and median of the device output for each lot
    3. A graph showing the above five points (spec upper/lower, actual upper/lower, median) for both lots

This information would greatly help us in determining whether the change we observe is expected device variation or a potential anomaly.

Thank you very much for your support.
