How dose TI measure the accuracy of capacitance for FDC1004?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: FDC1004

 Dear Technical Support Team,

I think that evaluator compares the capacitance value between measuring instrument and FDC1004 for checking the accuracy of FDC1004(Figure1).

In general, measuring the capacitance between two point.

How does TI measure it for evaluating FDC1004?

Does TI measure the capacitance value between electrode and what thing?

Figure2 shows a capacitive sensor on Citation of the literature.

It described that the reason why touch sensor can detect the capacitance of human body is that the signal from touch sensor follows below route.

Touch sensor>electrode>Human body>capacitance of space>GND(wall of shield room)

In this case, I think that measuring instrument should measure the capacitance between electrode and wall of shield room.

  • HI:

The FDC1004 devices are factory trimmed and the corresponding spec relative to accuracy is absolute error. Several known fixed value C0G/NP0 capacitors are used for trimming the device. We measure each fixed capacitor with the FDC and compare it against an agilent tester. If there is a difference, we trim the device to achieve lowest absolute error.

We do not trim the device based on actual sensors because we do not know the capacitance of the sensor since it's dependent on the system environment, and we do not measure accuracy of an actual person because the human body self capacitance can be different from person to person.

    Thanks
