FDC1004: Schematics and Layout review help.

Part Number: FDC1004
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LDC2114, LDC2112

Dear TI Expert,

My customer have designed FDC1004 into their BLE wristband for monitoring whether user is wearing the wristband or not. So they only need 1 channel of FDC1004. I've suggested they follow the FDC1004 EVM design. Since both customer and I have poor experience on this chip.  Could you kindly help to double-confirm is there anything wrong in the FDC1004 schematics and layout as attached? Thank you very much.

  • Hi Bruce,

The schematics look okay for the FDC1004 based design. I am assuming the customer is power gating/PWMing the device in order to save power?

This maybe a bit too late at this stage but some other devices to consider would have been the smaller WCSP devices LDC2112/LDC2114 to implement cap sensing, they have a much lower current consumption but only provide information about relative change in the sensing environment.

    Regards,

    Varn.

  • Dear Varn,
Thanks a lot for your support. Yes, customer want to save power. I'll tell them to consider LDC2112/LDC2114 if they need better power-saving performance.
