FDC1004: Space Qualified Capacitance to Digital Conversion

Part Number: FDC1004

I am looking for an architecture for a Capacitive to Digital conversion sensor using TI Space Qualified components. The FDC1004, and others appear to be similar to what I need, but are not Space Qualified. What are the Space Qualified TI building blocks needed? Thank you for any help.

Some specifics:

Capacitor Interface: 2 wire direct to capacitor

Digital interface: flexible

Capacitance range: +/- 10 pF nominal but flexible

Common Mode capacitance: 15pF nominal but flexible

Space Qualification: QML V, Rad Hard (low levels, ~ 10Krad TID) preferred

  • Hello,
Unfortunately we do not have a space qualified version of the FDC1004 or any from our cap-to-digital family. Apologies that we are unable to provide you with such a device.
    Regards,
    Luke
  • thank you for the response.

Is there a plan to space-qualify anything in the FDC1004 series? my need date is about May 2019.

Can you recommend a high-level architecture for implementing in discrete TI space-qualified components?

  • Hello,
We currently don't have an immediate plan for a space grade version of the FDC1004 before May 2019. Also we can't release the internal schematics of the FDC because it is confidential to TI. If you are looking to implement a low resolution cap-to-digital converter then you may be able to implement a discrete solution. There are a number of ways to do this each with their own benefits and tradeoffs. If you search the web a common way to do this is with an integrator and an ADC. However, depending on your required resolution, repeatability, shielding, etc it may be difficult to achieve with discrete components.
