LMT87: LMT87-Failure Conditions

Part Number: LMT87

We are using LMT87 Temperature Sensor for our application. The GND pin of LMT87 which is a sensitive pin is in contact with cold or hot surface which is in turn in contact with a metallic probe.

Suppose under this condition, few drops of water from the cold probe falls on the sensor, what are the effects or faults which may damage the sensor. Also what if a user is in contact with the metallic probe under this condition? Will it be harmful to the user!

  • Neeta,

Are you referring to the TO-92 package?
VDD shorting to VOUT or VDD shorting to GND may damage the device according to the absolute maximum rating table. If the current goes over the max rating you may cause permanent damage to the device. With respect to the user, you will need to determine the user's impedance to GND under the fault condition and determine how much current will flow to cause a significant health risk.
