MMWAVE-DEVPACK: Initialization issues with AWR1642 raw data capture using mmwave-devpack and tsw1400

Part Number: MMWAVE-DEVPACK
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AWR1642, AWR1642BOOST, MMWAVE-STUDIO

Hi,

I want to capture raw ADC data from an AWR1642. I have access to all the 3 boards (AWR1642, MMWAVE-DEVPACK, and TSW1400). I followed all the instructions to setup the boards and get everything up and running using the following mmwave training video:

https://training.ti.com/mmwave-sensor-raw-data-capture-using-tsw1400-board?cu=1128486

In this video, at 6:20 the trainer clicks on the "Connect" button in Radar Studio. After which, the "Device Status" and "RS232 Connectivity Stat" are populated such that it shows that the Radar board is connected.

However, in my case, nothing really happens after I click the "Connect" button. No updates on the GUI, nothing changes on the boards as well.

Hence, I am unable to move forward from this point onwards. I use the same exact configurations mentioned in the video.

Has anyone faced such an issue? or does anyone have any pointers to solve this?

Thanks and Regards,

Raashid

  • Hello Raashid,
Make sure that you have connected USB cables to both AWR1642BOOST and MMWAVE-DEVPACK and check in device manager if four 'AR-DevPack-EVM-***' COM ports and two 'XDS110 Class ***' COM ports.
In the mmWave Studio GUI if ports are available then you can see 'No. of Devices detected' as '1' or click refresh button next to it. Only then select COM port named as 'XDS110 Class Application/User UART' (in device manager) from the mmWave Studio GUI COM port list and click connect.

You can futher check these steps provided in mmWave-Studio user guide.

  • Hi Jitendra,

Thank you for your response. I am able to see all the COM ports in my device manager that you mentioned. I am also able to see "No. of Devices Detected" as "1". I can see the "FTDI Connectivity Stat" as "Connected" in green. But after clicking "Connect" in the "RS232 Operations", nothing happens. The button is unavailable for a few seconds but there is no change in the GUI. "RS232 Connectivity Stat" is still "Disconnected".

  • Hi Jitendra,

I found out that I had not put the AWR1642 board in development mode by shorting SOP0 and SOP1. I was shorting only SOP0. Radar studio was able to connect to the board now.

    Thanks,
    Raashid
